Dr. Alberto Ibarra grew up as a bright, curious kid who somehow never quite fit the mold. He worked twice as hard as everyone around him to accomplish half as much, never understanding why staying focused felt impossible while it seemed effortless for everyone else. He made it through school, through college, and through a doctoral program largely on sheer will and without any real framework for understanding why his brain worked the way it did.
It wasn't until adulthood that he received his own ADHD diagnosis. That moment was both a relief and a reckoning. Suddenly, decades of struggle had a name. With the name came clarity, and with clarity came purpose.
Dr. Ibarra founded Nova Mental Health with one central mission: to make sure no one spends as long in the dark as he did. He has dedicated his career to ADHD assessments that are thorough, accurate, and grounded in real science. Not rushed. Not checkbox-driven. The kind of evaluation he wished he had growing up.
His commitment to equitable care is deeply personal. He grew up watching how mental health access wasn't distributed equally. Diagnostic delays were longer for communities of color, for Spanish speakers, and for people without premium insurance. That gap is something he works every day to close.
A small, dedicated team of clinicians and coordinators who take your care personally.

A nexus letter is a medical opinion written by a licensed clinician that establishes a connection between your current mental health condition and your military service. If the VA has denied your claim or you're filing for a mental health condition (PTSD, anxiety, depression, ADHD, etc.) for the first time, a strong nexus letter can be the deciding factor. Our letters are written by licensed psychologists, cite peer-reviewed literature, and address all three nexus criteria required by the VA.
No, they serve different purposes. Therapy focuses on emotional processing, mental health symptoms, and underlying patterns. ADHD coaching is skills-based and practical: we build systems for time management, organization, task initiation, and follow-through. Many clients benefit from doing both, coaching accelerates the practical changes while therapy provides emotional depth. Coaching is also not billed to insurance, making it accessible regardless of your plan.
We are currently licensed to provide telehealth services in California, Florida, Oregon, Idaho, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Montana. ADHD coaching and VA Nexus Letters (which are document services rather than clinical treatment) may be available to clients in additional states. Please book a free consult to discuss your specific situation and we'll let you know what's available in your state.
All our sessions are conducted via a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video platform. You'll receive a secure link before each appointment, with no special app download required. You'll need a device with a camera, microphone, and a private space. Telehealth has been shown to be equally effective as in-person care for therapy, ADHD evaluations, and coaching, and offers the added convenience of attending from home or work.
